Monogram in Byzantine Art

چکیده
İsim, unvan veya bir dua belirten dizi harfin bileşimi ile oluşan sembol olan monogramlar, Erken Hristiyanlık dünyasından itibaren Bizans sembolizminde önemli yer edinmiştir. Nomina sacra’dan türeyerek kutsal karakterler için haline gelen kişilerin monogramları, apotropaik işlev görmüştür. Seküler monogramlar ise, dünyevi grupların isimlerine atıfta bulunmuşlar ve en yaygın olarak imparatorluk sanat eserleri üzerinde görülmüşlerdir. Bunların işlevleri dini monogramlardan farklıdır. Üzerinde aldıkları nesneyle bütünleşerek sahiplik, iktidar güç sembolü olmuşlardır. Günümüzde araştırmacılar monogramların problemi, harflerin yerleştirilme sistematiği bulunamadığı okunmasının hipotezden öteye geçmemesidir. Ayrıca, mimari yapılar, mücevherler gibi kişisel kullanım eşyaları, seramik tekstil üzerindeki işlevi hala tartışılmaktadır. Antik çağlardan Bizans’a miras kalan monogramları şekilsel dört kategoriye ayırmak gereklidir: Kutu haç çubuk yan yana bitişik harf monogramlar. Bu makalede, görsel kayıtlarındaki çeşitlerini sistematize etmek konusunda tartışmak amaçlanmıştır.
